In 1999 Richards was co- winner of the Gold Walkley, Australia's most prestigious journalist prize. She spent 20 years at the ABC, having served as a producer, reporter and Associate Producer of Four Corners, and Canberra-based National Affairs correspondent for Lateline, later becoming its Executive Producer. She was also Executive Producer of Media Watch, and was selected as one of the world's top female journalists in 2000, by the US-based International Women's Media Foundation. She moved to the Southern Highlands in 2003, for family reasons, and won the inaugural Health Journalist of the Year award, presented by the National Press Club. Her appointment as editor of YourTimes underscores a commitment by the local independent publisher to champion the public’s right to high quality information, analysis and debate. “We see it as a privilege to turn our skills to the grass roots community issues and development issues. The Highlands is a complex region, with strong development pressures, infrastructure problems and employment issues,” Ms Richards said. “YourTimes is an important part of helping the community to be informed and able to debate and shape its future.”
